We are a private Newfoundland family owned and operated industrial supplier in business for 60 years. With over 40 years experience servicing both the retail consumer as well as industrial supply contracts.

Rideout’s Electric Ltd opened its doors in 1949 downtown St. John’s. The location pictured here is actually the 3rd location occupied by Rideout’s Electric as of 1966 fronting Water Street with Princess Street along the side – if it still existed today, this building now would be located on the parking lot of Magic Wok. Although this is the store front, Rideout’s actually occupied this location as well as 2 other surrounding buildings for additional office space.
The lack of downtown space prompted a move to Kenmount Road, originally to the Stokes building until notified less than 2 years later of the availability of land for sale further up. Rideout Tool & Machine built on our current location 222 Kenmount Road in June 1973 with a new scope of business and under the new name of Rideout Tool & Supply Ltd. – to be used interchangeably with Rideout Tool & Machine Inc. for some years to come until decided once and for all in the 1990s to remain Rideout Tool & Machine Inc.
The Skil brand was the first power tool line distributed by Rideout Tool & Machine in the 1960s represented by Canadian hockey greats Henri Richard and David Keon. The Grand Opening of the Kenmount Road location was attended by Henri Richard pictured here with Roland Rideout, founder of Rideout Tool & Machine, and his wife Lillian.
Since the mid 1980s, the St. John’s location has been proudly Newfoundland owned, operated and expanded by brothers Ray, Harry and Chris Rideout.
Branching Out...
Rideout Tool & Supply Ltd. soon branched out to the West Coast of Newfoundland to better serve the entire province in 1981 and was set up and managed by Chris Rideout. The Corner Brook operation remains in this location today at 115 Humber Road.
As the Corner Brook location was quickly established, Rideout Tool & Supply Ltd. then branched out to the Nova Scotia market setting up in Burnside Industrial Park in 1986. Chris Rideout established this location and remains there as Branch Manager.
Continued Growth & Success...
In 1998, Rideout Tool & Machine Inc. demonstrated leadership by becoming one of the first companies in the industrial supply business in Newfoundland to attain ISO 9002 quality certification just in time to also celebrate our 50th year in business. Rideout Tool & Machine maintains this level of quality and remains an ISO 9001 registered company with a demonstrated continual commitment to improvement.
Of the staff pictured here as of 1998 for the St. John’s location, all are still working with Rideout Tool & Machine today with the exception of 4.
